Dr.S.Bond Shuttering Oil is an emulsified blend of mineral oils and non-hazardous chemicals, specially formulated to produce release properties which are superior to those of a conventional mould oil. Dr.S.Bond Shuttering Oil is supplied as a sprayable white liquid, ready for direct application on site. The chemically reactive components in Dr.S.Bond Shuttering Oil provide a water repellent interface which protects formwork and ensures an even colour and texture of the cast concrete. In addition to preventing adhesion of the cement matrix to the formwork, Dr.S.Bond Shuttering Oil will allow air to escape from the interface during concrete placing and vibration. This release of air minimises surface blemishes and results in a substantial reduction in remedial costs.

Advantages:

  • Good adhesion to the formwork
  • Undisturbed by concrete
  • Reduces concrete contamination
  • All tools can be cleaned with water
  • Low cost and economical
  • Non-hazardous, non-toxic
  • Ensures good fair-faced concrete
  • Non-staining „
  • Minimises cleaning of shutters before re-use
  • Can be used on all types of formwork
  • Does not rust steel moulds or equipment „
  • Does not inhibit application of paints etc to finished concrete (field trials should be conducted)

Application Instructions:
  • Preparation Of New Moulds - No preparation is necessary but if extensive re-use of timber moulds is envisaged, it is advisable to protect all new surfaces from alkali attack which can result in a very short usable life. Steel moulds require no special treatment other than the removal of rust or oil, although wetting out may be improved by lightly abrading the surface.
  • Preparation Of Used Moulds - All traces of adherent material either concrete or previous oil deposits must be removed prior to use. Moulds previously used with Dr.S.Bond Shuttering Oil will require only light brushing as the presence of fine dust will improve the wetting out properties of Dr.S.Bond Shuttering Oil. This will usually result in improved release properties on the second and subsequent uses of the mould.
  • Coating - Dr.S.Bond Shuttering Oil can be applied by brush or conventional mould oil sprayer. If a mould oil sprayer is used care should be taken to ensure that a fine nozzle is fitted as Dr.S.Bond Shuttering Oil should be applied in a light continuous film. If Dr.S.Bond Shuttering Oil is over applied, excess material should be allowed to drain and then carefully removed from the bottom of the mould by means of a sponge or cloth. Pools of Dr.S.Bond Shuttering Oil should not be allowed to dry otherwise surface retardation of the concrete may occur. Unlike conventional mould oils, Dr.S.Bond Shuttering Oil does not possess residual release properties so it is important prior to each occasion of use, all areas of the mould are re-coated. Particular attention should be paid to coating mould rims in order to avoid adhesion of overspill cement slurry.
  • Drying Time - Freshly applied Dr.S.Bond Shuttering Oil is easily removed when wet and should therefore remain undisturbed until completely dry. In hot dry climates drying time may be as little as 10 - 15 minutes, but in conditions of low temperatures and high humidity, 1 - 2 hours might be required. In adverse drying conditions the use of a warm air blower directed onto the mould is strongly recommended. Protection from heavy rainfall subsequent to application is also strongly recommended. When dry, Dr.S.Bond Shuttering Oil is sufficiently durable to withstand foot traffic, i.e. for the fitting of reinforcement. However, it is important that such access be limited in order to minimize contamination or abrasion of the applied Dr.S.Bond Shuttering Oil film.

Dr.S.Bond Release Agent is specially formulated blend of mineral oils and chemicals having release properties which are superior to those of a conventional mould oil. The chemicals react with the alkali in the concrete to form a thin water repellent skin on the surface of the mould, thereby enabling easy striping from concrete and acting as a protection to steel and wooden formwork. Dr.S.Bond Release Agent is supplied as a pale straw coloured liquid ready for direct application and use.

    Advantages:

    • Ensures easy release, good fair-faced concrete „
    • Can be used on all types of formwork
    • Minimises surface blemishes and staining „
    • Minimises cleaning of shutters before re-use
    • Reduces opportunity of damage to formwork, extending usable life.

    Technical Support:

    • Formwork Surfaces : Equally effective on wood or metal moulds and shutters. Particularly effective on GRP and other resinous coatings including Dr.S.Bond Release Agent coated wooden surfaces.
    • Non-Staining : Does not stain concrete and can also be used safely with white cement.
    • Concrete Surface Quality : In addition to preventing adhesion of the cement paste to the mould or shutter face, Dr.S.Bond Release Agent allows air, which would otherwise be trapped, to escape from the face when the concrete is being poured and vibrated.
    • Pockets of air, trapped on the shuttered faces of concrete, are a major cause of imperfections, necessitating remedial work Dr.S.Bond Release Agent avoids time and money spent on this.
    • The chemical reaction between Dr.S.Bond Release Agent and the cement in a concrete mix produces a strongly hydrophobic surface. This repels surplus water at the interface with the mould and by protecting the concrete from its effects, preserves uniformity of surface texture and colour.
    • Re-Use Of Moulds - Due to excellent release properties, little or no deposit of cement paste remains on the shutter surface. Minimum cleaning down and further coat of Dr.S.Bond Release Agent renders shutters ready for reuse.
    • Economic Benefits - On account of the high rate of coverage, the applied cost of Dr.S.Bond Release Agent chemical mould release agent compares favourable with that of conventional mould oil. Having regard to the technical benefits additionally obtained, the overall economy of using Dr.S.Bond Release Agent can be significant.

    Application Instructions:
    • Preparation Of New Moulds - No preparation is necessary, but if extensive reuse of timber mould is envisaged, it is advisable to protect all new surfaces with Dr.S.Bond Release Agent. Dr.S.Bond mould Release Agent protects timber from alkali attack which can result in a very short usable life. For used moulds, all traces of cement must be removed together with any surface deposit of previous oils.
    • Coating - Dr.S.Bond Release Agent can be applied by brush, sponge or conventional mould oil-sprayer. If a mould oil-sprayer is used, care should be taken to ensure that the correct nozzle size is chosen. Stir the contents of the container thoroughly before use. Apply one coat of Dr.S.Bond Release Agent thinly and evenly over the entire surface. Only the thinnest coating necessary to achieve effective coverage should be applied. Excess application is uneconomical and may lead to surface dusting.
